Investigative Source
A senior Russian army officer has been killed following an blast in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.
The event took place on Monday morning when an IED concealed beneath a vehicle exploded, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
Investigators indicated that one possible explanation involves the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Location of the Blast
Teams have been dispatched to the location, which is said to be in a south district of the city.
Reports suggest the detonation occurred in a car park close to a residential building.
Series of Incidents
Since the beginning of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military personnel have been attacked within Moscow.
This latest event comes after other high-profile incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a bomb placed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a source from Ukraine in the past attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are rarely officially confirmed as a matter of official stance.
The war has been marked by covert operations reaching into the heart of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death is still underway.
